GOG Put own Spin on Early Access Gaming
GOG have unveiled their own version of Steam's Early Access. As you expect from the digital distribution site, they are doing it in what they hope is a fair and open way by adding a number of features not available on other sites such as update rollback and a generous refund policy.
The feature is called "Games in Development" and has started with 5 games:
- Starbound
- Project Zomboid
- TerraTech
- Ashes of the Singularity
- Curious Expeditions
"Our goal has always been to offer a selection of titles that are both excellent and worth your time. Nowadays, we're seeing more games that are already great experiences while still in development," says Piotr Karwowski, GOG.com Managing Director. "We want all gamers on GOG.com to have access to what these titles have to offer, but we want to get it right, carefully evaluating each and every game, offering a 14-day refund policy, and providing GOG Galaxy support with update rollback and more."
All of this means that you get a very different experience to the Steam Early Access policy which doesn't have these features. The first five releases are also subject to launch discounts until 2nd February to celebrate the successful creation of this new feature. All games will be curated as well, meaning that they will have to be approved by GOG before they make it into the programme.
