GOG Galaxy 2.0 Wants to Consolidate Your Games In One Place
On 22nd of May 2019, GOG released news about their new gaming launcher, GOG Galaxy 2.0. In the announcement, GOG Galaxy 2.0 is to be a single launcher. Once all the player’s platforms connect with GOG Galaxy 2.0, all the games and friends from each platform will be imported into a single library. Not only that, GOG states that the launcher will be able to keep track of any achievements made no matter what platform was used to play the game. Players will be able to friends’ activities and online statuses across connected platforms.
“As gamers, we need to juggle between multiple clients to access our games and see what our friends are playing,” says Piotr Karwowski, Managing Director at GOG. “We believe gamers deserve a better experience, and this became the driving force to redefine GOG GALAXY client. GOG GALAXY 2.0 is designed for all gamers and extends well beyond existing GOG.com users, into both PC and console platforms.”
More and more gamers have started to vent their frustrations regarding the need for multiple platforms or launchers to play their games. This appears to be GOG’s way of answering those frustrations. GOG also assures that no personal data will be shared with third parties, probably a response to the growing number of concerns regarding privacy gamers feel are being violated by other companies. So far, responses have been very positive by gamers although many are noting the lack of the Linux support.
An actual launch date has yet to be announced. You can sign up for the closed beta here.
