Give8-Bit Overview

Give8-Bit Overview

Give8-Bit is a unique YouTube channel that will be the place for gamers to find out about current and upcoming charitable activity in their favourite games, and get involved or even give them ideas to run their own gaming fundraiser. The channel itself will also show charity impact, for gamers to see the direct impact they are having.

The launch of the channel will coincide with GamingTuesday, 3rd December 2013 which runs alongside #GivingTuesday, an annual day for giving back, and one of the busiest times of the year to be online, and to be giving back for the Christmas season.

So far IGN, Zynga, Jagex, Sports Interactive, Pixelberry, Ian Livingstone and Andy Payne have pledged their support and media resources to highlight the charitable work they have undertaken with such charities as: War Child, Heifer International, Games Aid, Cybersmile, Special Effect and DEC.

We've currently put out an ‘open call’ to any developers who've run/or scheduled a charitable campaign to come forward and put their media on the channel so that it can reach a wider audience. We are excited about this as there has never been one place for gamers to find out how they can give through games or even ideas of how to do their own fundraisers, and some of the campaigns we have seen so far have raised huge amounts of money for causes.

Give8-Bit, to sum up:

  • A channel for gamers to find the most current, and upcoming fundraisers through games, channels and live streams
  • Give8-Bit will hold quarterly events to raise funds for specific causes. We will also work with publishers and studios to provide prizes and rewards back to players for participating in fundraisers
  • In-between Q events campaigns going live will continuously be updated in Give8-Bit
  • The channel will eventually hold a ticker showing how much has been raised, and have charity videos showing the direct impact gamers are having on them

  • We will also have instruction videos for gamers who want to do their own fundraisers and tools to help them get up and running quickly! (To follow shortly)

  • Created by Playmob, the London and San Francisco -based technology company championing charitable fundraising in games through it’s unique platform.
