Ghostbusters Devs File for Bankruptcy

Ghostbusters Devs File for Bankruptcy

It seems 2016 has proven to be a strange year for the Ghostbuster's franchise. While the film was a surprising success following uproar over the initial trailers and all female cast,  there were extremely low scores for the 'sort of is, but definitely isn't' videogame tie-in, (currently at 31 on meteoritic for the PS4 version).

The low scores were made worse, when today, reports from Kotaku suggest that the developers of the game, Fireforge Games, filed for bankruptcy just three days after the game's release.

The report, by Jason Schreier, suggests that Fireforge owes Chinese investment holding company Tencent  $11.3 million after the development on an unknown title was ceased.

On top of that, the company are also being sued by lawyer, Richard Land, after he claimed Fireforge signed a contract to license 38 Studios' social media platform, Helios, for $3.7 million, but later hired employees of the defunct studio to create a similar platform.

Despite it's timing, it seems the release of Ghostbusters (2016) had very little to do with Fireforge filing for bankruptcy and it was something that was on the burners for a long time.

If you're curious how the product of a supposedly bankrupt company and a reported eight-month development cycle turns out, then check out our review of Fireforge's latest title.
