Ghost of Tsushima's Open World Won't Feature Waypoints
Sucker Punch’s upcoming stealth-action game Ghost of Tsushima is just a couple of months away, and a few key details about the game’s open-world have been revealed in a preview for the game in the latest issue of Official PlayStation magazine.
The article explains; “you explore the island’s lush environments without the help of waypoints, choosing where to explore next using landmarks and your knowledge of the world. Sucker Punch is no stranger to creating open worlds, but the fairly minimalist nature of the environments is a bit of a departure for the developer.”
Sucker Punch’s other notable open-world franchise is inFAMOUS, which used quest markers and map icons to push players in the right direction. Ghost of Tsushima’s more hands-off approach is certainly a bold departure, but it’s one that should help separate the game from PlayStation 4’s own Horizon: Zero Dawn and Marvel’s Spider-Man - two other big budget open-world exclusives from renowned Sony developers.
What’s more is that digging into the game’s side content will advance time in the story, with prompts coming up to inform players of how many days have passed since the Mongol Invasion began. It’s currently unclear as to how this passage of time will affect the game as a whole, but this is certainly shaping up to me a more dynamic take on the open-world formula than most of its contemporaries.
Ghost of Tsushima is set to release exclusively for PlayStation 4 on 26th June.
