Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Includes Entire Gears Collection
Microsoft and The Coalition have announced prior to Gamescom that the upcoming Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will give players access to all previous Gears of War titles via Xbox 360 backwards compatibility.
The only requirement is that Xbox One gamers play the ultimate edition on Xbox Live from August 25th to December 31st, 2015 and they'll unlock them for free. All the Gears games are expected to launch in autumn and will support Xbox One features, including: Game DVR, Snap and Screenshots. Previous Gears owners will also keep/use their saves, DLC and achievements to continue where they left off.
It's a sweet deal, especially for new players. Although now it pretty much confirms that there will be no remastered editions of the Gears of War sequels. Then again, after the disastrous Master Chief Collection launch we can't blame Microsoft for not wanting to have another repeat of that.
In the mean time, Xbox One owners who are part of the preview program can play from today the original Gears of War via backwards compatibility.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition launches August 28.
