Gears of War 4 Launch Trailer and Details
Never fight alone in the upcoming Gears of War 4.
As we get ever closer to the arrival of The Coalition’s Gears of War 4 more information and details of the campaign have been revealed. Previously we had a multiplayer beta, to test the waters of the multiplayer and most recently we got all the nitty and gritty of the return of Horde mode.
Now, we've got ourselves a launch trailer showing off the new epic scale of Gears of War 4. Taking place 25 years after Gears of War 3, this sequel brings us a new developer (The Coalition) and features a new squad, lead by Marcus Fenix's son and a new emerging threat to the people left in Sera. Narrated by Marcus, after the events of 3 the world was safe and in peace, but now, not only are there extreme weather conditions emerging, a new enemy threat is at large know as the Swarm.
During my time at gamescom at the Microsoft booth, I had the opportunity to see a brand-new gameplay presentation of the campaign and speak with the developers about the new features and some information about the PC release too.
The presentation showed us the ferocity of the hazardous weather due to the effects of the Imulsion countermeasures from Gears of War 3. As a result during combat heavy wind and powerful storms all has an impact on gameplay, and affects both the player and the enemy. We also saw a new enemy type, The DeeBees, these are COG created machines retrofitted as combat units to control the Outsiders of Sera as the COG have called marshal law closing off entry to the city. As JD Fenix and his friends pushed through oncoming enemies, new tactics have to be deployed in order to counteract the threat.
The digital edition of Gears of War 4 comes with Xbox Play Anywhere, this means if you purchase it digital for either PC or Xbox One, you get both versions. Not only that, but the PC release is looking to be a technical showcase.
The PC version will support a wide variety of features and even has an option to crank up the visuals to Insane and will utilise DirectX 12. Not only that, there will be crossplay support, meaning PC and Xbox One player can combat it out in multiplayer and team up for Horde and the campaign. You can even play locally in split-screen if that takes your fancy.
The Gears of War experience was still all there, and the frantic cover based shooting is still just as strong as it was before, but more refined than ever before.
Gears of War 4 has gone gold and will arrive October 11th worldwide for Xbox One and Windows 10.
