Gamepump - Bringing Classics Back

Gamepump - Bringing Classics Back

Announced this week, Gamepump is a new service which will be launching in January 2017, aiming to bring back classic console-exclusives to Steam. Working with indie developers, they are hoping to port, remake or emulate games from 1983s MSX all the way to last-gen.

Specifics haven't been disclosed, so it's similar to the Humble Monthly Bundle in that you won't know which game you are going to get (as well as being created by Robert Bowling, who helped create the Humble Monthly service). You can subscribe for one, three or 12 months on a nonrecurring basis, priced at $5, $10 and $20 respectively. Although the 12 months at $20 is apparently a limited time offer.

As mentioned, the first game will be sent out to subscribers in January, and it will also be released on Steam on the same day, so there is no way for subscribers to get a game they already own.

In case you are worried that you will wind up with twelve Game Gear puzzle titles, we have been assured that is not the case.

Our focus is on diversity more than anything and want to make sure people are getting something different every month over the course of 2017.

Everything needs to work well for PC interfaces, so generally unless a handheld can be adjusted to play well on PC we won't consider it.

-Robert Bowling, President, Gamepump
