Further Delays for Cuphead
Vintage-cartoon inspired indie platformer Cuphead has been delayed once again. The game was originally set to launch at the end of 2014, but has been beset by delays on two occasions already now. Initially it was delayed in order to come to the Xbox 360 as well as PC, followed by a further delay as the team expanded the scope to create a full-blown platformer, rather than the initial vision of a series of boss fights chained together. The game is now due in mid-2017, as the team need some extra time to make the game exactly as they envisioned it.
The title stars the titular Cuphead, who literally does have a cup for a head. It's designed to replicate the cartoons of the 1930s, down to being hand drawn and animated using techniques available in 1930 (and a little photoshopping to neaten things up). It's an ambitious title, so given the scope delays are understandable, but as one of the more anticipated games to come out of the last two E3s, it's also understandable that a lot of fans are going to be disappointed.
Developer Studio MDHR took to their website to announce the delay:
"Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact. We are happy to announce that Cuphead will be coming to Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam in Mid-2017.
We are constantly humbled by your continued support. Love you all and can’t wait to get this to you. Without further ado, we will get back to work"
