Frontier Tease Elite Dangerous: Beyond - Chapter One
Last year during Frontier Expo '17 Frontier revealed their plans for Elite: Dangerous post Horizons with their year long rollout of new free content they were calling Elite Dangerous: Beyond. They stated the year would be bookended by two major content patches with two minor ones filling in the gaps.
The first of those major patches, called Chapter One, is almost upon us with a teaser trailer providing tantalising glimpses of things to come. It's also coming soon, with the open beta starting on the 25th January for PC owners.
Images of the new Alliance warship, the Chieftain, as well as hints of the visual upgrades coming to planetary surfaces. The menacing Thargoid threat is still at the fore throughout the trailer.
Along with the new ship, Elite Dangerous: Beyond - Chapter One will also include improvements to engineering, mission rewards and crime and punishinment along with the ability to access trade data from systems you've visited.
It will also see the addition of something the community has wanted for awhile, Wing Missions, allowing you to take on missions with fellow commanders rather than them being a solitary affair.
Rounding out the update are the introduction of GalNet Audio and improvements to planetary visuals providing a wider variety of colour and texture to the universe.
The beta goes live on the 25th January for PC/Mac owners of Elite: Dangerous and Elite Dangerous: Horizons owners. Some of the features will only be available for those with Horizons.
Elite Dangerous: Beyond - Chapter One will go live across all platforms, PC, Xbox One and PS4 sometime in the first quarter of the year.
