Frontier Reveal Tourism In Elite Dangerous: Horizons Patch 2.2
Continuing on from the information in this morning's gamescom session, Adam Woods, Producer on Elite Dangerous: Horizons revealed more information regarding Patch 2.2: The Guardians.
Fleshing out some of the information on Passenger Missions it was stated that VIPs can become disgruntled if you take too long or don't deliver them immediately to their destination, leading them to leave or even jettison from your ship in the passenger cabin's built-in escape pods.
As well as simply going from A to B, there are also new Tourism Locations that are locations of significance or beauty. A lot of the destinations have come from the community and the commanders that suggested included ones will be immortalised on special tourist beacons along with some associated lore and flavour text.
New station interiors are another big change coming to the game that has been requested frequently. There are now multiple variations for the station internals that better represent the wealth and economy of the systems they are based in; refinery stations for example have a dark appearance and you can see metal being processed. Likewise they showed a tourism based station that was heavy on parks and greenery, complete with holographic water.
New hangar appearances and other visual tweaks mean that there should be a lot more variation to stations soon. These tweaks aren't just for when docking either, they showed a snippet from a David Braben interview where he confirmed that white dwarfs and neutron stars were being added to the galactic simulation along with tectonic simulation improvements preparing for volcanism allowing for geysers and similar formations to show up on planets.
They also confirmed that they are aiming for a mid-October launch simultaneously on both Xbox One and PC.
More information on patch 2.2 is to come tomorrow with big teases that they are showing ship-launched fighters and perhaps aliens will make an appearance as there was mysterious interference throughout the stream.
We'll be sure to post any new information as it's unveiled.
