Free-To-Play Shooter "Loadout" is Shutting Down
Free-To-Play Third-Person Shooter Loadout will be shut down on 24th May 2018.
This announcement comes directly from the Loadout official Facebook page, in a long post which thanks players for their of support for the game, the development team who worked on the title, including members of the the now-defunct Edge of Reality, and the employees of Playfab, Steam, and PlayStation, who had a hand in distributing the title. While the announcement states the possibility of the game's comeback, it also lists the reasons for the game being taken offline, which are as follows:
First, General Data Protection Regulation within the EU, the announcement cites that Loadout's simply do not have the resources to update their game to meet regulations
Second, Cloud service from their provider due to, again, being unable to update/port the game to the updated Cloud service that the announcement speculates also may be the result of the GDPR legislation
And lastly, rising costs, which are the fault of Cloud services being discontinued, possibly due to new regulations, and putting the Loadout devs at a loss for upkeep on the title.
The message closes with an invitation for players to have fun with the game while they still can, and implores them to make sure they find a way to record their time with it. Finally signed with "Until next time, Rob".
Unless there's a sudden upsurge in players of the six-year-old game, it may be fair to say Rest in Peace, Loadout. We hardly knew ye. Go now, to sleep among the stars with the dying Paragon and Gigantic, as well as the fallen, like FEAR Online and Battlefield: Heroes.
