Final Fantasy XVI Announced as PlayStation 5 Exclusive

Sony kicked off its PlayStation 5 September Showcase with the reveal of an exclusive title: the next mainline entry in the world-famous Final Fantasy franchise. That's right, Final Fantasy XVI is on the way, exclusively for the PlayStation 5.

Well, it's on the way, but it's still got some distance to travel considering that the next batch of information regarding the title isn't planned until 2021. Still, we've got a lengthy four-minute trailer to tide us over until then. Check it out above for a brief look at the battle system in action—sans HUD—as well as a story and character overview.

So it's a new Final Fantasy, which means new characters, new enemies and a new setting (noticeably more fantasy-orientated than recent titles), all with the familiar franchise motifs that have worked their way into our culture (and many players' hearts). Are we excited? You bet!

Final Fantasy XVI  will release exclusively for the PlayStation 5 and has no confirmed release date as of now.
