Final Fantasy XII HD Remaster Announced

Final Fantasy fans rejoice. You will be getting another HD remaster to grace your PlayStation console. Announced via Square Enix's YouTube channel, Final Fantasy XII (12 if you don't know your Roman numerals) will be coming to PlayStation 4 in 2017.

Final Fantasy XII was the last fully fledged fantasy to hit the PlayStation 2 and this remastered edition will include everything and a number of new features never released before in the west. Taking from the Japan only International Edition, the HD remastered includes the Zodiac Job System, a 12-job progression system.

Alongside this, the remaster will get the same treatment as seen in the Final Fantasy X remaster. You'll get full remastered graphics, including characters, environments and movie sequences. The audio will also get an upgrade, with 7.1 surround sound, higher quality voices and new background music. Together with Trophy support, auto-saving and shorter loading times.

Coming in 2017 Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is looking very promising and is great for those, who never got the chance to play. Check out the announcement trailer above.

From that trailer it's looking good. FFXII still looks fine today, the assets from the PS2 version, especially some of the texture work, were surprisingly nice.

Having the Zodiac Job System officially available in the West will be a nice reason to play through it again, having fixed job roles really makes for some interesting choices.

I'm really excited for this, I can't wait to return to Ivalice!

I loved XII! Glad it's making a remaster :D

*waits for X, X-2 and XII to come to PC too instead of just PS4*

XII was the first Final Fantasy I~ didn't like. Still completed it though, unlike XIII, and I've always wanted to see how much of a difference the Zodiac job system made to the game, so might buy this. When it's on sale.

I really enjoyed 12 mostly because I love Ivalice as a setting, it's a little more 'gritty' and lived-in than most FF settings. I also loved that the story wasn't all about the heroes. Most of the plot would've happened regardless of character actions really. The political nature of it was more interesting to me than the usual 'chosen one' archetype.

I also enjoyed XIII and XIII-2 a lot despite their failings. Lightning Returns I wasn't a fan of mind you.

I liked Ivalice. Just the bare thin plot, a collection of characters that mainly lacked any actual character, charisma, or point to existence. Also wasn't a fan of the License board, having the exact same weapons and abilities further robbed them of character or a sense of individuality. Big fan of the combat system!

At first I liked XIII, mainly because it wasn't XII and thought XII was as bad as it could get. I was proven so horribly wrong.

Zodiac Job System definitely helps the License Board problem out, once you pick a role for a character they are stuck with it and each board is different. I enjoyed the plot although I agree the characters on the whole were bland (except for Balthier). The Gambit system was exceptional!

Definitely interested if they make any other tweaks to things. :)

I played about half an hour of it on PS2. Didn't feel an urge to return to it before getting an Xbox 360...

Half an hour isn't a long time in a JRPG though, especially a Square one. They have a habit of starting quite slowly.

12 is definitely a slow burner early on too. JRPGs are certainly timesinks! :)
