Everything You Need to Know About the Hordes of Hunger Early Access Launch
Developer Hyperstrange and publisher Kwalee are working together to bring a new imagining of the Vampire Survivors–created genre bullet heaven... this time, in 3D! Taking control of Mirah, players will have to fight against hundreds of cannibalistic monsters in an attempt to survive their relentless onslaught, creating builds and finding their fighting identity throughout.
The title launched on Early Access on the 6th of May, giving players the opportunity to experience a bit of it. We're here to cover everything you need to know about the Early Access drop!
Why is Hordes of Hunger in Early Access?
The team cites three main reasons for launching Hordes of Hunger in Early Access: building a community, gathering community feedback, and testing. For the Early Access launch, Hyperstrange is looking to gather information from the players regarding the features they most connect with, allowing them to build upon the foundations that have already been laid out and guide the game down a route that is favourable for the player.
To see the project through to completion, the team wants to be able to get information from the community that builds around it, getting their thoughts on the balancing, potential issues, improvements, and more to shape the final product.
How Long Will the Hordes of Hunger Early Access Last?
According to the team, the Early Access period should be somewhere around six months time. This is a change from the usual one-year forecast that most developers give regarding Hordes of Hunger, and it's refreshing for those who prefer to experience a more completed product.

If the timeframe works out, then Hordes of Hunger would be eyeing a 1.0 release for sometime mid-November 2025, but this is purely speculative based on the information given. It's not uncommon for issues or delays to occur, especially with project creep.
How Will the Release Version Differ from the Early Access?
Throughout the development period and the road leading up to 1.0, the team is looking to make a few changes and add even more things for players to engage with. Here is how Hordes of Hunger will grow throughout the Early Access period.
- More quests, including six additional ones
- A new weapon added for hand-to-hand combat, including a weapon art
- Four new enemies and three new types of enemies to increase the overall variety
- Four new maps will be added, leading to 1.0
- New skill trees are planned to be included, giving you more ways to engage with meta progression
- A new NPC: Priestess of the Cult
- New achievements will be added to the 1.0 launch
Will Hordes of Hunger Be Priced Differently at Launch?
Though the team wasn't entirely specific about it, we do know that Hordes of Hunger will see a price hike at the end of its Early Access period, meaning that those who purchase it early get a bit of a discount. We don't know what it'll grow to, but we can expect an increase later down the line when 1.0 launches.
