The next entry to the ever-famous Monster Hunter franchise is creeping in! Though we still have a few months away from the full release (wow!), CAPCOM is bringing an Open Beta Test to eager fans, which all players will be able to join and try out.

Though we're all looking forward to this upcoming Open Beta Test (OBT henceforth), there are a few questions lingering in everyone's minds! Here is everything you need to know about the OBT.

What Will Be Included in the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test?

The OBT will include three different things for players to try out. First, you'll be able to create your Hunter and Palico, and then, you'll experience the opening cutscene and play through the Chatacabra hunt, teaching you the basic tutorials and letting you familiarise yourself with the weapon mechanics. This will also include the seamless transitions, where the game will change from cutscene to gameplay without cuts.

Afterwards, you'll head on a Doshaguma Hunt, where you'll hunt a pack of Doshaguma and take down the alpha, exploring Seikret and switching between two of the weapon types on the fly. It'll give you a feel for the latest hunting action and upgrades.

This will also include SOS Flare so you can play with other players online (or ask for help from NPC Support Hunters). This multiplayer will feature crossplay among the numerous platforms in the second test period.

What Exclusive Items Will You Get for Participating in the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test?

Hunters who jump into the opportunity to try the OBT will get a bonus unique item and pack, getting you ahead for the full release of the game. You'll get the cute Open Beta Test Bonus Pendant to show off and customise with, alongisde the Open Beta Test Bonus Item Pack, which includes the following items:

  • 10 Mega Potion
  • 5 Ration
  • 5 Lifepowder
  • 2 Max Potion
  • 2 Herbal Medicine
  • 2 Nulberry
  • 5 Armor Sphere

To qualify for these rewards, you need to use the same platform account that you used to play on the OBT, and you'll need to have access to an internet connection in order to receive them.A mandatory requirement is to at least make a character — if you just download the OBT, you won't qualify for the bonuses.

All of these Open Beta Test bonuses may be available separately at a later date.

Can You Transfer Your Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test Character Data to the Full Release?

Yes! The character that you get to create — including your hunter and Palico — will be transferable into the full version once the game releases. You'll need to do so through the same account where you participated in the Open Beta Test in order to qualify, but once you're done, you can transfer it.

That said, this transfer is only for the Character Data. You will have to replay the segments you finished throughout the OBT. You'll be able to do it through the Internet to transfer your character, and then you can pick up from the beginning without having to recreate anything, though CAPCOM does warn that Character data may not carry over if there are unexpected behaviours or malfunctions.

Will the Gameplay Experience During the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test be Smooth?

CAPCOM notes that the Monster Hunter Wilds OBT may not be a fully stable experience. Considering the test is being ran due to verifying certain elements — like network load — issues may arise and the gameplay experience may not be stable.

This is also subject to possible emergency maintenance that may be required without prior notice, and CAPCOM retains full rights to change or cancel the OBT without prior notice.

When Will the Survey Period for the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test Be?

Finally, once you've finished playing throughout the experience, you'll be able to fill in a feedback survey to share your concerns, thoughts, and requests. The survey period begins on the 29th of October and ends on the 8th of November at 04:00 GMT. The link is currently not available, but the survey will be able to be found here.

You'll get two social media icons for completing the survey.
