Dread Templar Blends Modern and Retro FPS Design
With pixel art graphics, maze-like levels packed full of secrets and frantic gameplay, it'd be easy to write off the recently announced Dread Templar as a direct homage to the shooters like Hexen and Quake which inspired it. Dig deeper, though, and you'll find that developer T19 Games has implemented some distinctly modern changes to the retro shooter formula, including headshots, bullet-time and playstyle-affecting skills and powers. Check out the game in action above.
Releasing on Steam Early Access this autumn, Dread Templar puts players in control of... well, a Dread Templar on a quest to seek vengeance on the creatures of hell. With an arsenal of weapons, skills and supernatural powers, they will shoot, slash, burn and obliterate anything that stands in their way.
Dread Templar releases on Steam Early Access in autumn 2021. A full release is planned for 2022.
