Disney Infinity to be Discontinued

With 3 million starter packs finding their way into homes worldwide, and versions for nearly every console imaginable, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Disney Infinity 1.0 is a huge success for the company. Apparently, Disney themselves would disagree with you as the company have cancelled the game with effect from later this year. 

There are three new characters from Alice Through the Looking Glass coming later this month, as well as a new play set for upcoming Pixar movie, Finding Dory releasing in June. Those will launch as planned, however they will be the last sets that are available to purchase. The news was broken on the Disney Interactive blog but SVP and GM of Disney Infinity, John Blackburn. 

No reason was given for the demise of the game, but with Disney keeping tight lipped on sales figures of the more recent sets, it could be that they didn't see the success desired. The toys-to life market has become quite crowded of late, with last year's release of Lego Dimensions being met with strong sales. There's every chance that could have been the final straw for Disney's equivalent.
