Devil May Cry 5 Now the Best Selling Entry in the Series
Capcom recently updated its list of platinum selling titles, and it's revealed that 2019’s Devil May Cry 5 is the best selling entry in the franchise at 3.1 million sales.
This now makes the game the 19th best selling Capcom game ever, just above Dead Rising 2 and slightly below Monster Hunter World: Iceborne’s 3.2 million sales. The previous highest-selling entry was 2008’s Devil May Cry 4 at 3 million units sold, a gap that Devil May Cry 5 is sure to widen in the future.
Devil May Cry 5 acted as somewhat of a love letter to the series, bringing back old characters and continuing the story from where 4 left off after an 11 year wait. In the game, players control Nero, Dante and new character V, as they try to uncover the mystery behind the demonic Qliphoth tree that’s gradually destroying Red Grave City.
This return-to-form received strong critical acclaim, earning favourable reviews and bagging the best Action Game award at the 2019 Game Awards. This along with the franchise topping sales means that it was a successful endeavour for Capcom overall, and the series will likely have a bright future moving forward.
Devil May Cry 5 is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and is also accessible through Xbox Game Pass.
