Destiny Beta Will Open in July
Activision Blizzard will be opening the public beta for Destiny, the next game from Halo developer Bungie, sometime in July.
With recent reports on the game's extravagant budget, and the fact that Activision has secured distribution rights through 2020, it's clear the Call of Duty publisher has set their sights on Destiny as the next big gaming franchise, and they're not afraid to take the steps they deem necessary to make it that way; and after reports that their profits are down 35% across the board this year, it's easy to see why Activision is willing to take a gamble in the hopes of winning big.
Destiny is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth, where players take on the role of a Guardian, charged with protecting the last standing city. The game will blend the first-person shooter and RPG genres, and hits shelves September 9. While there is no release date yet on the beta, it will allegedly be available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 first--sorry Xbox and PC players--before presumably making its way to other platforms.
