Destiny 2 Comes Under Fire For One-Time Use Shaders
Destiny 2 is out and the masses are enjoying it so far, but one element has come under fire due to the way it has been changed for the sequel.
Destiny 2 makes use of a shader system to allow players to change the colour of their gear to help add some customization and personality. In the last game, shaders were multi-use so long as you had the shader in your inventory. Now however shaders in Destiny 2 have become a one-time use item. Meaning once it's applied to a piece of gear it's then gone, now effectively a consumable. As you would expect this has caused a some outrage in the player base as it is speculated that this change is to encourage players to purchase more loot boxes which have the chance to drop a random shader.
Though the change has not gone down well with a number of players Destiny 2 director Luke Smith took to Twitter to explain and defend the change in a series of tweets.
Shaders are earned through gameplay: leveling, chests, engrams, vendors. We expect you’ll be flush w/ Shaders as you continue to play. (1/4)

When you reach level 20, Shaders will drop more often: vendor rewards, destination play and endgame activities. (2/4)

Shaders are now an ongoing reward for playing. Customization will inspire gameplay. Each planet has unique armor and Shader rewards. (3/4)

With D2, we want statements like "I want to run the Raid, Trials, or go back to Titan to get more of its Shader" to be possible. (4/4)

It is easy to see how this change can be viewed as a push to make players purchase the loot boxes, but with the explanation from Luke Smith it makes a bit more sense. How do you feel about the changes to shaders in Destiny 2? Let us know below in the comments.
