Defiance 2050 Developer Trion Worlds Suffers Layoffs
Not even a week after the release of Defiance 2050, development studio Trion Worlds has announced it has laid off 15 members of its staff.
The news comes from Gamasutra where Trion Worlds CEO Scott Hartsman confirmed that 15 developers had been laid off following a decision by the company. It is noted that the move does not reflect the performance of those laid off or of Trion Worlds as a whole. The decision was deemed a necessary step towards developing the studio's upcoming projects.
"We've had to make the difficult decision to eliminate 15 positions throughout the company," said Hartsman. "We are extremely grateful for those who have been impacted for their hard work and contributions to Trion Worlds, and will be offering each of them severance benefits and job placement assistance. This is not related to the performance of the individuals affected nor of Trion Worlds as a whole, but was necessary to enable us to develop the upcoming projects that we have planned in the best ways possible."
Trion Worlds recently acquired the assets of defunct Marvel Heroes developer, Gazillion Entertainment, which was shut down following Disney cutting ties with the studio. It is unclear how the laying off those 15 developers will impact any planned work with these assets.
We wish the best of luck to those affected by this news in finding new work in this difficult time.
