The DayZ alpha is sprinting from the starting line with an impressive 172,500 copies sold in just 24 hours.

First day of DayZ (Alpha). Hours passed: 24. Copies sold: 172500. Survivors online: 142403. Bugs discovered: many. Work ahead: hard.

Dayz is a zombie apocalypse survival game which promises more realism than any we have seen before. The premise is so simple, scavenge, slay, survive. What is difficult is the realistic environment you are thrust into. If you get shot, you will bleed. If you don't eat, you will starve. You need to collect food and water to keep yourself alive and a range of weapons will be needed to fend of zombies and bandits. If you are injured you had better hope you can find medical supplies because you are going nowhere fast until you do.
