Coral Island Received a Quality-of-life Update!
Coral Island is a farming sim title set on a vibrant island, developed by Stairway Games and published by Humble Games. The game just reached its first-year anniversary, and it's sitting at 15,631 reviews at the time of writing, with a score of Very Positive (87%).
The patch 1.1b brings a myriad of quality-of-life changes — so many that the name is "Quality of Life" update! So, let's talk about them. Here's a quick summary first before I unleash paragraphs of information:
- A new cooking show has been added.
- A daily blessing from the Goddess is now available.
- New debris can be found in the mines: the Mystery Rocks.
- The Bamboo Net can now be crafted to passively catch fish.
- New General Store quests are available.
- Hangout hours for the Observatory, Hot Air Balloon, and Afternoon Tea have been changed.
- UI improvements.
- Dialogue improvements.
- The requirements for Town Rank A have been lowered.
Starting off, players will be able to learn new recipes in the new cooking show hosted by Chef Sisca; it will air on Fridays on the in-game TV, offering the opportunity to learn a new recipe every week!
Another new addition is the Goddess Daily Blessing. As the name implies, once players unlock the feature, they can get a blessing every day by going to a travel point. The perks might improve the chances of catching fish, insects, or scavenging, among others!
Speaking of scavenging, there's a new feature in the Scarlet Mines and Cave of Memories: the Mystery Rocks! This new type of debris will offer ores, ore veins, seeds, rare fish, rare insects, and — occasionally — even unleash a monster on the player! If you want more of them, then you'll need to increase the number of offerings made to the Goddess, as for every two, more of them will appear.
A new feature will help players who don't enjoy fishing but still want fish: the Bamboo Nets! These useful new tools will passively catch fish. They can be unlocked at Fishing Level 3 and then Fishing Level 7 (first the Small variant). All players need to do is place it near the edge of a body of water and patiently wait! The Small Bamboo can hold up to one fish, and the large up to three. But don't get too excited — the nets can't catch Legendary Fish!
Looking for something to keep you busy? Sam over at the General Store has your back. Now, players can trigger a set of replayable quests by triggering the Local Produce quest! Once everything has been completed, Sam will continue to ask for assistance in stocking up on goods and improving the lives of the townsfolk.
Some hangout areas' times have changed, too; namely, the Observatory opens only at night, the Hot Air Balloon at day, and the Afternoon Tea is available from 12 PM to 5 PM.
Aside from all of that, some general improvements have been made across the board, such as in the UI and character dialogue, among others. One thing I would like to highlight is that the requirements for Town Rank A have been lowered! Now, it is easier to achieve it, so it's more accessible for everyone. Coral Island is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
