To give players more options during the gameplay the player will be able to make use of a gift system. This allows them to use up to eight gifts to gain temporary buffs and passive benefits during play. A partner action will give players the chance to make use of their companion by having them support during battles and even sharing health points when needed. The core combat within Code Vein will also have players managing their stamina and focus as well, much in the style of Souls-like games before it.

As for the character creation, players will be able to make their own protagonist however they like by choosing gender, body, hair style, voice and more. Some details were also released about two of the characters players will encounter during the game.

“The young leader Louis really wants to help Revenants suffering from bloodlust. He ventures into the isolated land of VEIN looking for the source of Blood Beads to use it as a substitute for human blood. With his one-handed sword he is a swift attack expert and can elude with the armor type Ogre.

Io is a female Revenant who explores with the protagonists. She has no memories about her past but she knows very well VEIN. She will be extremely useful for the player character!”
