Brexit to be Simulated in Football Manager 2017
Football Manager mastermind, Miles Jacobson has announced a rather intriguing line with regards to the upcoming release of FM17. He is quoted as saying, “as far as I know this is the first time a computer game has tried to predict the future of a country.”
So what's the big idea? Well, in a gutsy move that will bring politics into football, Brexit will be simulated into FM17, and it is believed this addition will make the game harder than ever. This 'Brexit simulator' will model "some of the consequences of the UK leaving Europe."
In-game, players of FM17 will be notified at some point between two and 10 years that trade negotiations to leave the European Union have begun, and then a year later a news bulletin will detail the extent of Brexit.
Three main scenarios:
- Soft Brexit - free movement of workers remains.
- Footballers are granted the same special exemptions that are currently given to ‘entertainers’. This means it is easier for them to obtain work permits than other people, and it will not have a huge impact on player movement from the EU.
- Hard Brexit: similar rules to those which currently apply to non-EU players are adopted for all non-UK players.
So, what about that FM fans? Huge, and potentially game changing news coming from Miles Jacobson. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below. Alternatively, you can find the full interview here.
