Borderlands 3 - What's the Situation with Next-Gen?
Gearbox has officially outlined its plans for Borderlands 3 going into the latest generation of consoles, and it looks like we've got a full-featured package waiting in store for us—whether we play on Series S/X or PlayStation 5. Check out the next-gen trailer above.
Right upfront, Borderlands 3 will be available at no extra cost on Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 for owners of the previous generation version of the game, as long as it's on the same platform. So, unfortunately, PlayStation 4 owners won't get a free Series X copy of the game (or vice versa). These versions will run at 4K, 60FPS and offer 3/4-player local split-screen play (where previous-gen only allowed 2-player split-screen. This upgraded version will be available alongside each respective console's launch (out now for Series S/X and PlayStation 5 in selected regions; 19th November for PlayStation 5 everyhwhere else).
All save data and DLC will transfer from last-gen to current-gen, although owners of the Series S and PlayStation 5 Digital Only edition will only be eligible for the free upgrade if they own the previous-gen version of Borderlands 3 digitally.
Borderlands 3 is out now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 (in some regions), Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PC and Stadia. It will launch in some regions (including the UK) for the PlayStation 5 on 19th November.
