Blizzard Announces Gay and Trans Weapons in Warcraft Lore

Blizzard Announces Gay and Trans Weapons in Warcraft Lore

Editor's Note: The astute amongst you will have probably noticed the date on this article already. This April Fools gag was brought to you by GameGrin.com

In a move that has stunned the more vocal members of the gaming community, Blizzard has announced more LGBT+ inclusion in one of the company's big titles. This time round though, it's a rather unlikely source as it turns out that some of the weapons in the Warcraft series of games haven't been cis or hetero since the outset.

The complete list of weapons and their designation is as follows:

  • Warglaives of Azzinoth - Polyamorous
  • Gorehowl - Gay
  • Arcanite Reaper - Gay
  • Zin’rokh, Destroyer of Worlds - Transgender
  • Unidentified Cooking Utensil - Pansexual

The move is likely to prove as controversial as previous LGBT+ revelations such as Tracer and Soldier 76 in Overwatch. With only 10476 heteronormative weapons left in the game now, there have been some angry commenters on Twitter, suggesting that Blizzard are clearly leaving them out by making these five weapons no longer accessible to them.

In a statement, a Blizzard representative told us:

"We're proud that our games are inclusive and encompass people from all walks of life, and we've always tried to be as open as possible with our players. To be honest with you, there's not really any reason to do this, they're inanimate objects, but we saw some of the rude comments when we announced LGBTQ+ characters in Overwatch and thought, 'why not?'  Ultimately, it's just hilarious to watch people get their knickers in a twist about Blizzard "pushing the LGBT agenda". I can't wait to see what the alt-right have to say about this one."
