Bioshock Sequel Announced by New 2K Studio - To be Released for Next-Gen Systems

It was announced earlier today that 2K, the publishing titan behind games such as Borderlands, Civilization and NBA 2K, has opened a new San Francisco and Montreal based studio that has just begun work on a new BioShock title.

Called Cloud Chamber, the new development studio is formed of a "collective of storytellers" who are "eager to push the frontlines of interactive entertainment". Lead by Kelley Gilmore, an experienced industry figure with 22 years under her belt in numerous, she has also become the first-ever female to launch and run a 2K development studio.

In a press statement, Gilmore announced that numerous individuals behind the earlier Bioshock games have joined Cloud Chamber to work on this sequel. It has been subsequently confirmed that franchise creator, Ken Levine, is not among this number and still works at his own studio Ghost Story Games, owned by 2K's holding company Take-Two Interactive.

Scarce few details have been released about the game itself yet outside of its mere existence. The game is reportedly in its early stages and will be in development "for the next several years", so it's likely that there are no specifics to report yet.

It's been almost seven years since the last full game in the franchise, BioShock Infinite released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. With a new generation of consoles on the horizon, BioShock looks to skipping the current-gen machines. Cloud Chamber could certainly be a name to watch out for in the run-up to Project Scarlett and the PlayStation 5's release.
