Bethesda Kinda Bringing Mods to PlayStation 4
A few weeks ago we reported on the fact that Fallout 4 would not be getting mods on PlayStation 4 despite what they had previously stated.
Well, Bethesda have published a blog stating that mods will now, indeed, be coming to PS4 starting with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, before following along on Fallout 4.
What's most interesting, however, is this line:
You will not be able to upload external assets with your PlayStation 4 mods, but you will be able to use any assets that come with the game, as most mods do.
Which means that PS4 players will not be able to download mods such as the one that swaps the dragons for Thomas The Tank Engine, amongst other texture mods.
This feeds into the main theory behind why mods were canned in the first place. Sony use a proprietary file format, which they are reluctant to let modders use for whatever reasons.
They do finish off with good news, however, that Skyrim Special Edition will run at 4K on PlayStation Pro, and they will also update Fallout 4 so that it will also run at 4K on the Pro.
