Bayonetta and Vanquish are Getting New Remasters

In 2017 both Bayonetta and Vanquish saw releases on Steam, with improvements to the game’s visuals as well as their framerate. Now it seems like they’ll be receiving a similar treatment for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 due to some recent listings on the Microsoft store.

Both Vanquish and Bayonetta have been spotted Xbox One store, with the listings detailing 4K visuals and 60fps on Xbox One X. The two titles are available separately or together in a 10th anniversary bundle. While there hasn’t been any clear indication of the two coming to PlayStation 4 as well, it’s a safe assumption with them originally releasing on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Bayonetta was originally released in 2009 before coming to the West in 2010, and was directed by acclaimed developer Hideki Kamiya (Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry). It acted as somewhat of a spiritual successor to Devil May Cry, also being a 3D action title focussed on bombastic boss fights, a cocky but endearing lead character and an absurdly deep combat system.

Vanquish was released in 2010, and much like Bayonetta it was also directed by a well established game developer Shinji Mikami, who is mostly known for creating the Resident Evil franchise along with directing the largely influential Resident Evil 4. Vanquish continues the third person over-the-shoulder shooting of Resident Evil 4, but combines it with flexible mobility and break-neck pacing.

Both titles were developed by PlatinumGames and published by SEGA, and were also (unsurprisingly, given the pedigree of the directors) met with a strong critical reception. They have since gained dedicated fan followings, with many upholding them as some of the strongest titles in their respective genres.

Despite no official word from SEGA on the releases, both titles are listed for an 18th February, 2020 release.
