Battlefield 2042 Comes to an End as Devs Focus on What’s Coming Next
The Battlefield 2042 team has announced that season seven will mark the end of Battlefield 2042. While the game will still receive support in the form of in-game challenges, events, modes, and ongoing maintenance, this final season will be its last. But along with the game’s end comes a new beginning, as Motive Studio — makers of Dead Space (2023) and STAR WARS: Squadrons — joins DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect to work on Battlefield.
While Battlefield General Manager, Byron Beede, didn’t detail what’s exactly coming next for the Battlefield franchise, the announcement did close with thanks to the community. “Battlefield is an experience that is defined by the passion of its community,” he wrote.
The Battlefield team is expanding as we look to the future of the series. We welcome a new team from @motivestudio – makers of Dead Space (2023) and Star Wars: Squadrons (2020)!

Community reception about this announcement has been overwhelmingly negative across X and the game’s subreddit, as players express their discontent with DICE’s mismanagement of the game, the underwhelming amount of content, and Ridgeline Games’ recent closure. The future of Battlefield could certainly take a turn for the better, but in the meantime, it appears the fanbase will remain sceptical until more details arrive.
Battlefield 2042 is available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
