ASTRONEER's Rover Update Releases
System Era's sandbox exploration game Astroneer has received The Rover Update, which has overhauled the pre-existing rovers and added in a new one, along with performance improvements for larger save files and multiplayer games. The new update sees Absolute Steering become the default setting, meaning the rovers are now controlled with the movement keys regardless of camera position. The physics model for the vehicles has also been updated to create a more natural driving experience. A new small rover has been added into the game to give access to the vehicles earlier on in the game, and the medium rover now costs slightly more. The medium and large rovers now also require active power sources to further differentiate their roles.
Among the performance improvements brought with this patch are HDR availability for the Xbox One X and Xbox One S versions, reducing the processing cost of terrain deformation, optimising older assets and a game engine update to Unreal 4.18.
