Astral Chain Is PlatinumGames’ First Release To Top UK Sales Charts

PlatinumGames have recently released Astral Chain, and it’s the first game in the companies history since being founded in 2007 to top the UK sales charts.

The closest a game in the company’s portfolio has gotten to the number one slot is 2013’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which ended up slotting at number two in the charts. Considering Metal Gear Rising was an instalment in a previously established IP, it’s an impressive feat for a new IP to top its placement.

Astral Chain has so far managed to bag a strong critical reception, with it currently sitting at an 87 on Metacritic. It’s likely that strong reviews have helped contribute to its solid launch, as well as it releasing exclusively on the highly popular Nintendo Switch, a console which has also been receiving a lot of buzz since its 2017 release.

Astral Chain is an action game where players control a police officer from a special task force, as they investigate the mysterious appearances of an alien race called Chimera, and combat them with sentient weapons known as Legions. Throughout the game, players will not only have to fight numerous challenging opponents, but also investigate crimes and mysteries around the city as well as help civilians in need.
