The key features which the website lists are: the headset hardware does the grunt work so your computer doesn't need to, individual adjustable focus for each eye, dynamic stereo sound, ability to see the real-world without removing the headset, expansion port for user upgrades, oversized lenses and three buttons.
Given the fact that each lens is adjustable, to avoid those with less-than perfect vision from needing to wear their glasses, it's obvious why "three dedicated buttons" took final billing...
This announcement gives more information about the headset than the Oculus Rift website has on their device, even all these months later.
