An Additional Game Mode Added to Tetris 99

Tetris 99 has a new free update, which includes the brand new Team Battle Mode. As the name suggests, this mode has players working together as opposed to the solo-play previously seen in the game.

At the start of the round, players will be able to pick from one of four teams and face off against other teams. Not every team is going to have as many members as each other, but teams with fewer players get a larger increase in attack power. The last team standing with at least one player left wins, and victory is shared between all other team members as well. If a player is knocked out they can still spectate and support their teammates by sending them “likes” throughout the match.

Some other minor additions to the game include alternate button configurations, extra unlockable emblems, and the ability to unlock previous event based themes for 30 tickets (these include classic Tetris Game Boy, Splatoon, Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Super Kirby Clash.)

Lastly, a Tetris 99 Grand Prix 10 event will be active over the course of a few days, which takes advantage of Team Battle Mode. The top 999 players at the end of the event will be awarded with 999 Gold Points which can be used for purchases on the Nintendo Switch eShop. The event will run from 13th December at 7am UK time until 17th December at 6.59am UK time.
