Are you excited for Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition? Well at gamescom 2020, the game has gotten some new information thanks to an interview from Adam Isgreen, Joss Ellis, and Bert Beeckman.
To start with, Adam was asked what would entice new players to join Age of Empires III? Adam replied to say that Age 3 is a great representation of American civilisation during the colonial era. It also features 16 different civilisations to play as.
Next, Joss was asked what the technical limitations were of bringing an old title like this back to life on current hardware and what it has done to expand how the game can play and feel? Joss replied by stating that the game has been rebuilt from the ground up with modern hardware in mind and so they had a lot more freedom to make the game run better and improve upon the limitations of the original, hardware-wise.
The next question was aimed at Bert and was focused on which new game modes have been included in Age 3? Bert replied by talking about art of war, Bert advised us that art of war is a new game mode that is kind of a beginner friendly mode that helps introduce you to some of the more challenging mechanics in Age of Empires 3. Bert also advised that Native American advisors were brought in to make the game more realistic.
The next question was aimed at Adam, what have the team learned from doing the previous two definitive editions to make Age 3 even better? The most important aspect that the team has learned is the community impact and the fan feedback that helps improve the overall feel of the games and makes it better.
Lastly, Bert was asked about two new civilisations in the game. Bert advised that people love new content and that when the studio was able to add new civilisations they were thrilled to have the opportunity to do so. The new civilizations are Sweden and Inka and they both play quite differently from the original game’s civilisations.
