After 12 Years of Service, the Chivalry Servers Are Shutting Down
Just shy of 12 years ago, on 16th October 2012, a new kind of multiplayer game graced the screens of many a player: the mediaeval free-for-all, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.
Placing players in one of two combating armies, the game featured squads of armour-clad players guarding a castle, pillaging a village, protecting a King, or trying to stop the other team from doing the same. Featuring multiple classes, such as the speedy Vanguard or the heavily-armoured Knight, the game offered multiple different weapons to unlock and armour to wear, all while trying to give a more-or-less accurate feel of the chaos a battle of swords would present.
Now, 12 years and one sequel later, Torn Banner Studios have made the difficult decision to shut the servers down. Mainly due to a dwindling player base and evolving industry standards, it was decided the resources allocated to the servers' upkeep could be better used in other areas of the Chivalry community. For those still loving the game, this is not the end, however, as multiple unofficial servers are still live!
As a last celebration of the game, the developers from Torn Banner Studios will be putting themselves to the test, playing throughout Friday 5th April. Think you can match the creators?
The servers for Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and its DLC Chivalry: Deadliest Warrior will be taken offline as of 8th April 2024.
