A New Skylanders Game is in Development

News has reached us that a new Skylanders game is in development at Toys for Bob, the original creators of the series.

Toys for Bob, who were acquired by Activision in 2005, created the Skylanders series and developed the original game, Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure as well as the sequel Skylanders: Giants. The most recent title in the series, Skylanders: Swap Force was produced byVicarious Visions who were also responsible for the 3DS port of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure and the Wii U version of Skylanders: Giants.

The Skylanders games involve putting different figures on a "portal of power" to port them into the game. Each figure has unique abilities and skills and to complete the game entirely it is beneficial to swap between several Skylanders. The basic game comes with some figures to start but most kids want to collect extras. The collectable nature of the figures has made them the outsell all top action figure lines in both 2012 and 2013.

The Skylanders franchise is a huge phenomenon worldwide. It was the first kids game franchise to pass the $1Billion mark and it did this in the first 15 months of its release. It is currently one of the top 20 video game franchises of all time and has made more than $2 billion in franchise revenue.
