A Look at Torchlight III's Animal Crossing-Esque 'Forts' System
The next instalment in Runic Games'Torchlight series is almost here. The latest title, Torchlight III, marks the first time that Runic Games isn't at the helm of development, leaving the responsibility to Perfect World Entertainment instead. Regardless, the ARPG hack and slash gameplay that fans of the series have come to love is alive and well—with a couple of intriguing twists.
Outlined in the trailer above, the all-new 'Forts' system colours the Torchlight experience in just a little bit of Animal Crossing. Letting players create and personalise their own home on the dangerous frontier, players will also use their Forts to express their character's personality; level up; customise their character's skills and equipment; and meet up with friends.
Conquering the goblins, undead and various Netherim foes terrorising Torchlight III's world will see players unlocking a growing collection of decorations for their Fort; naturally more accomplished players will have the most impressive forts! Obviously, the driving force between players' exploits will be the RPG staple of loot and XP, but Fort decorations are a nice bonus, and good for bragging rights too.
Torchlight III will release 2020 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
