11Bit Studios Gives Games To Pirates
11bit Studios have done something a little out of left field, they have given people who pirated their game This War Of Mine legitimate game keys. Well, 10 of them anyway. In the comments on a post of the game on the Pirate Bay one of the devs posted this.
It's Karol from 11 bit studios, the developers of This War of Mine.
We are really happy to hear that you like our game. They prove, that spending 2 years on it was worth it.
I would like to say thank you to everyone, who decides to buy the game and support us — because of that we'll be able to develop TWoM further and create even better games in the future.
If because of some reasons you can't buy the game, it's ok. We know life, and we know, that sometimes it's just not possible.
Here are some codes for the steam copy of the game, so some of you can take a look at it. And if you like the game after spending few hours in, then just spread the word, and you'll help us a lot.
The comment thread has already gone wild with praises for the game and the developer and promises to tell friends about the game. Which proves that comments made by the developers to Polygon are right, not all pirates are weasels who would pirate a title even if it cost 10 cents. Some are enthusiastic gamers who for one reason or another are unable to purchase one title or another and want to at least try out the game. Even buy it at a later date.
Pawel Miechowski from 11bit told Polygon in the same interview that their attitude was that if someone could not afford to buy the game and chose to pirate it, they could at least tell their friends who may buy the game and "give us a few bucks".
