ZyberVR KNIGHT Direct-Charge Controller Grips Cover for Quest 2 Review
While the batteries in the Meta Quest 2 controllers will last a good, long while, it’s always a hassle to replace them. The battery covers are a bit flimsy and I’m always worried that I will snap them when removing or putting them back on. So, when I found out about the ZyberVR KNIGHT Direct-Charge Controller Grips Cover for Quest 2 I was definitely intrigued!
Admittedly, they can be a little fiddly to attach, but once the Grips are in place they certainly make the controllers feel more substantial. You remove the original battery cover and the ordinary battery that you have inserted, then pop in the rechargeable battery. Keeping the battery cover off, slot the controller into the Grip, then pop on the halo protector that goes around the top of the controller. Then you just have to fasten it together, and you’re ready to charge them, thanks to the included Y-cable that plugs into your normal Quest 2 charger.
The rechargeable batteries are a sustainable solution, lasting for over 20 hours and boasting a recharge cycle of more than 2000 times. One snag is that even when they are fully charged, the Quest 2 will show that they are at about 70% charge. Zyber is aware of this, and warns about it in the instructions.
Given the length of the Grips, it extends the controller by about 5cm. It makes the controllers more suited to those with larger hands (though my 10-year-old can still use them), whilst the ergonomic curve design ensures a comfortable grip. The non-slip patterns on the Grips mean that even the sweatiest of games shouldn’t make them slip out of your hands.
I particularly like the adjustable silicone hand straps, featuring an elastic string for easy resizing. It’s a lot more comfortable for me, as I know that the controller isn’t going to slip out of my hand even if I were to let go. The cord that Meta expects you to use is a little flimsy and uncomfortable.
The transparent halo protector is a great idea that I wasn’t expecting, as it protects the weakest point of the controller in the event you collide with a wall or door. There are also toppers for the analog sticks! All in all, the kit offers well-rounded protection for Quest 2 controllers.
If you want to stop replacing batteries, or just get something to give your controllers a bit more protection, then the ZyberVR KNIGHT Direct-Charge Controller Grips Cover for Quest 2 is highly recommended.
