What I'd Like To See In Street Fighter 6

In case you missed it, Capcom unleashed a teaser for Street Fighter 6, giving us a glimpse of Ryu — looking incredibly hench — along with Street Fighter V newcomer, Luke. This got me thinking about what I’d like to see in this latest entry into the franchise.

For starters, a varied roster chock full of characters from throughout the franchise would be nice. Injecting some new blood, while also bringing back some existing faces… I’d love to see Rufus return to the fold from Street Fighter IV, and perhaps more crossover characters from other fighting games. It would also be nice for this title to have a bigger roster than previous games, providing us with a veritable smorgasbord of choice.

Yes, balancing a large roster can be problematic, people will start making tier lists, competitive play will only see a small pool of characters used because they feel others suck… It can be a problem, I get it. But, that period of experimentation where players are discovering what combos work and which character counters another is such a magical time.

I’d also like to see things fall back to how Street Fighter IV felt in terms of fighting mechanics. Something about SFIV just felt so right in terms of being incredibly welcoming and easy for new players to pick up, but also rewarded players that put time and effort into mastering the dark arts of each character. When making the move to Street Fighter V, I didn’t feel that same magic, something was off and I didn’t think it was as fluid as its predecessor. Not that SFV is a bad game, things just did not click with me as much.

Finally, I do hope to see the return of the inter-stage mini-games such as destroying the car or breaking the barrels. They were fun little distractions between fights that allowed you to go nuts for a few extra points in single-player mode. Even back in the days of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, trying to Shoryuken the car into oblivion on the Super Nintendo version gave me such joy.

We’ll have to wait until later this year before we find out more details about Street Fighter 6, but if you have thoughts on what you would like to see in this game, drop a comment for us down below!
