Top Indie Games Coming Out in October 2022

Summer has ended, and we are in full swing into autumn. With only a few more weeks until Halloween is upon us, I have hunted down some awesome creepy indie games to check out during this spooky season. Here’s the list of games that I want to check out this month!

Dragon Prana  — 7th of October

Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

dragonpranalarge

In this retro-looking RPG, the evil king who tried to take over the world 120 years ago has broken the seal, and it is up to the descendants of the heroes that originally banished him to defeat him once again.

I have always loved turn-based RPGs with pixel art, so I can’t wait to try this one out and play through the 20 different classes with my characters and try out all their different attacks to find my favourites.

The Last Hero of Nostalgaia — 19th of October

Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

nostalgaia

If you are a fan of Soulslike games you know that usually they are dark and serious. That is not the case in The Last Hero of Nostalgaia, the tone is fun and humorous as you will be playing as “the most hideous pixelated character to ever spawn”. This satirical action-adventure game still has the harsh but fair combat that you enjoy from Soulslike games and a cynical narrator to tell of your adventures.

I can’t wait to try out this light-hearted interpretation of a Soulslike game and hear the interesting comments from this narrator that despises the main hero!

Yomawari: Lost in the Dark  — 25th of October

PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC

yomawari

You play as a young girl who awakens in a strange, dark forest with no memory as to how she got there. While searching for a way out, she meets a mysterious stranger who informs her that she has been cursed and that to break the curse, she will need to seek out her lost memories, by venturing out at night to explore the streets of her town. She will not be alone, though; malevolent ghosts are hiding in the shadows waiting to grab her. To get away from them, she will have to hide, run, and close her eyes so she can’t see the evil and avoid their gaze.

Yomawari sounds like it will be a great creepy game to play around Halloween, and even lets you customise Yomawari’s appearance by changing her hair colour, hair style, clothes, and accessories, which you don’t usually find in horror-type games! I already know this game is going to make me jump.

Temple of Horror  — 26th of October

Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

 templeofhorror

Your soul is the latest to be trapped in the Temple of Horror, which is full of evil monsters, other lost souls, and forgotten evil that is trying to get out of this place. You must solve the mystery of the Temple and survive its labyrinthine design — dodging its many lethal traps and fighting off its hellish undead protectors.

This game sounds like an interesting mix of horror and puzzle elements in an action-adventure game. I’m hoping that it doesn’t have too many jump scares as it will be really hard for me to solve puzzles when I’m constantly scared!

The Unliving  — 31st of October

PC

theunliving

The title of this game already sounds creepy, but I can assure you this will be one of the lighter games you will experience on this list! You play as a necromancer, a sorcerer who leads armies of the dead. Lords and clerics think they are safe by hiding behind high walls, but there is no way to shield them from your wrath! In this rogue-lite action RPG, you will raise the undead and use various spells while you explore this pixelated mysterious world.

Your fallen enemies can be resurrected and recruited into your own undead army. Each re-animated soldier has unique abilities that they can use in battle. The undead Priest will now curse your enemies instead of blessing them. The Unliving looks like a hectic game full of action and crazy characters. I can’t wait to recruit my fallen enemies and make them fight for me! The Unliving will also be coming to consoles at a later date that has yet to be confirmed.

These are just some interesting titles I came across that are releasing this month. Are you going to check out new horror games this Halloween, or do you have a few favourites that you return to year after year? If there are any titles I missed, be sure to let me know down below in the comments! Have a great October and I’ll be back with more games coming out before the holiday season rush.
