Top Indie Games Coming Out in April 2022

Welcome to our list on the Top 10 Indie Games Coming Out in April! retrogamergirl here, March came in like a lion and went out like a lamb! But the good news is spring is on its way and if that wasn’t good enough, we have some cool-looking indie titles that my friend Artura Dawn and I found like Easter eggs! These titles look like they will be sweet treats for your game collection!

Once again, this article is separate from our monthly Top 10 Games Coming Out in April, because at GameGrin we absolutely love indie companies and titles. The indie titles listed here will not be on that other list so make sure that you check out both!

tERRORbane — 1st of April

tERRORbane

This is one of the craziest and most fun games that I have played in a long time, you take on the role of the character tERRORbane, whether you like the name or not you don’t have a choice as the developer of the game sure loves it! This is the developer's first game and he feels that it is perfect, even though it is full of bugs and glitches for you to discover. Who would have guessed that purposefully breaking a game would be so fun! With a great sense of humour, awesome references to other games, and fun characters to encounter, tERRORbane is the game I’m most excited for! Plus who doesn’t want to recruit a crate of pears or a villager whose attacks are to decoupage and dance!

Uragun — 12th of April

Uragun

Who doesn’t love taking control of a cool yet adorable looking mechs? In this futuristic top-down shooter, named Uragun, the mech awakens to find that the world has been taken over by corrupted AI. So you will have to master all the weapons at your disposal to take down the hordes of robots and other enemies that have come to attack. Discover the weaknesses of each kind of enemy to increase your chance of survival in each level.

This looks to be an intense game, with fast-paced action, where you can’t just hide and wait it out! I am excited to be thrown into battle with the enemies constantly hunting you down.

Glover — 20th of April

Glover

I remember when I first got my N64 as a child, Glover was one of the games I had rented for the system from the video store. You play as a white glove with four fingers — two working as his legs and the other two as arms — running around the stages and pushing his red and yellow ball, collecting power-ups. The new update of the game is created from the original N64 source code and has been optimised for play on PC.

If you loved this game as a kid, or if you missed out on it and just want to enjoy some N64 goodness, this may hit the spot! Chances are it would cost a lot more money to get an N64 console, controllers that work properly, and a copy of the game so just check out the new update!

Ganryu 2: Hakuma Kojiro — 22nd of April

Ganryu 2

Ganryu 2 is an action-platformer game that has you playing through 17th-century fantasy Japan as a samurai named Miyamoto Musashi. The original game was released on the NEO GEO and this sequel is inspired by the famous novel called The Stone and The Sword

The game is gorgeous and I can’t wait to play this action-packed title travelling through Japan to get to the island of Ganryu-Jima. This is a game that anyone who loves 2D sidescrollers should have on their radar!

Kaiju Wars — 28th of April

Kaiju Wars

Ever since I was a child I have been a huge fan of monster movies like Godzilla, I even enjoyed the old Godzilla game on the NES. However in Kaiju Wars you don’t get to play as the cool monsters; you are actually the weak army troops that are sent in to defend the city. I’m not exactly sure how long someone would last against a monster that just wants to stomp them, but I definitely would love to try it out and see for myself.

You try to defend the city by constructing buildings, using jets and tanks that will probably be destroyed since the kaiju gets stronger with every turn it takes in this 2D turn-based strategy game. So it will take some planning to take down the kaiju before they become too strong and you don’t stand a chance.

I’m extra excited to try it as the game was developed in a city that is a few hours away from me, so it’s always cool to see stuff created so close to home!

There aren’t tons of releases for the month of April but these are the five that I found interesting; at least our bank accounts will get to have a break for this month! Now I’m curious to see the games that Artura found for her list!

Artura Dawn

Artura Slashes Into Action

Hello, fools! April is here, and that means that we get to search for brand-new games coming out. This month was thankfully far kinder to Wally the wallet than last month, as there weren't that many games that I was at the edge of my seat to play; this isn't to say that I am not dying of excitement for some of the titles for this month. Without further ado, let's start with the first (and one of my most anticipated)

Grim Quest — 1st of April

Grim Quest

Grim Quest has been one of the mobile games I've most been excited to play and never gotten around to; I'm thankful for that, seeing it's releasing on Steam now. Recently, I told my wife to play the game and enjoy it, but now that it's coming out on Steam, I'm sure both she and I are very excited to see how it'll work!

Grim Quest is a text- and turn-based RPG set in a fantasy medieval world with Lovecraftian themes and Freudian psychology; a great mix, and I cannot wait to see how it develops. The title is free for mobile, so I am making the assumption that it will be free on Steam as well when it comes out on the 1st of April.

Sokobos — 1st of April

Sokobos

Added to the list of games I'm probably not smart enough to play — Sokobos. You need to move obstacles around to assemble items and honestly, it looks like such a mess and it's almost claustrophobic, but it looks fantastic.

I love puzzles: any sudoku, nonogram, minesweeper, I'll die for. And sure, although Sokobos isn't a numbers-based puzzle game, it's a logic game that I'm excited to try out. Am I scared? Yes. Will I fail? Probably. Will I give up...? You’ll have to read the review for that!

Knightblade — 4th of April

Knightblade

As the game is described on the Steam page, it is an open-world, fantasy game that has farming and life simulator features. The game's graphics are cute and the game style sounds interesting.

Although I'm not much of a fan of farming and life simulators, I am hoping Knightblade might offer to change my mind when it comes out on the 4th of April.

Scarleth — 22nd of April

Scarleth

The graphics of Scarleth had me sold before I even read the description. Truth be told, I have no clue what Scarleth is about, as even reading the Steam description isn't very... descriptive.

Despite not knowing much about what Scarleth really is, I am very excited about the game. Not only are the graphics gorgeous, but you also are encouraged to explore the secrets of the world. That and, of course, I can't wait to play as an alchemist.

SudoKube — 28th of April

Sudokube

You heard me right, SudoKube. The game is exactly what you'd expect it to be: a sudoku experience set on a cube; I warned you I loved sudokus.

The puzzles range from 2x2 grids to 4x4, and although that might not sound intimidating, the picture is. If not for the fact that I absolutely adore sudokus, then because the developers added a message to the 4x4 grid description saying that if 100 people beat it, they will create a hall of fame. Challenge accepted, Mandinga.

That's it for my list of indie games I'm looking forward to in April! I agree that my list was a bit more niche this time around, but I honestly couldn't help but be excited for these. What are the games you're looking forward to in April? Let us know in the comments below! We love researching upcoming games and abusing Wally when we are in dire need of money.
