Top Indie Game Releases for June 2022
Wow, it is almost June already! How the heck is that possible?! Anyways retrogamergirl here bringing you a list of the five indie title releasing in June that I am excited to check out and that you should definitely have on your radar; and sorry that so many of the titles are releasing on the 2nd of June, the beginning of the month is going to be an expensive one!
Gravitar: Recharged — 2nd of June
Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC
This classic game that has been “recharged” and updated for new gaming systems is a remake of the game that was released on the Atari 2600 back in 1982. This isn’t just your normal space shooting game, it is a lot more challenging than that as every solar system has its own gravity that you will have to get used to so you can complete the missions in that area. You play as a pilot who is far from his home, and who has to deal with the hostile and mysterious aliens that guard each of the solar systems. Once you complete all the missions in that solar system you will fly into a massive black hole and be transported to another solar system. Will our lone pilot ever make it back home?
I love retro games, so being able to check out this remake of a classic that has a cult following is going to be awesome. The game sounds incredibly challenging with the different levels of gravity in each area that will definitely test your skills as a pilot!
Souldiers — 2nd of June
Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC
This title might seem familiar to you as I had it on my list last month, unfortunately, the game was delayed, but if that means the game is better in the end then it is worth the wait! To refresh your memory Souldiers looks like a classic SNES game with a story that has soldiers seemingly getting killed in battle but meeting a goddess who gives them a chance to return back to their lives. The soldiers are trapped in a fantasy world located between the lands of the living and dead, this Metroidvania has you exploring, solving puzzles, and fighting enemies in the world of the dead to get back to the living world.
Souldiers looks and sounds great and when combined with a great story, this is a must-play for me!
Gigapocalypse — 2nd of June
Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC
It is no secret that I love games starring kaiju, the huge Japanese monsters like Godzilla. As soon as I saw Gigapocalypse I knew this was a game that I would enjoy; who doesn’t want to be a huge monster smashing towns and everything else that gets in your way? In this forced movement side-scrolling game, you are always moving, taking out everything that is trying to stop you.
One of my favourite things I saw in the trailer was the ability to choose a baby monster and raise them in this cartoony kaiju-filled game. Nothing is cuter than seeing a little creature blowing bubbles! This makes me so happy and excited!
Madshot — 9th of June
Steam Early Access
I had the chance to check out Madshot during the last Steamfest, this game is full of fast-paced action and tons of references to creatures from Lovecraftian lore. You play as Cthulhu in this rogue-lite shooter where your path is always changing, and every playthrough is different as the combination of upgrades you collect always varies and depending on the alterations you choose your next round may be easier for Cthulhu. Destroy the monsters standing in your way and take down the bosses in epic multi-phase battles.
This game is a ton of fun and the action never ends, plus playing as Cthulhu wielding two guns is pretty awesome all on its own. This is another must-buy title for me!
Starship Troopers -Terran Command — 16th of June
PC
In this real-time strategy game set in the Starship Troopers movies universe, you take command of the Mobile Infantry taking down any insect that you come across. It is up to you and your team to prevent the insects from dominating the galaxy and wiping out all humans.
Your enemy has almost limitless troops so you must figure out strategic tactics to overcome this huge imbalance by using elevation and covering chokepoints to turn the tables to your advantage. I can’t wait to see the number of bugs that I'm going to have to exterminate, this is going to be fun!
These are the five titles that I can’t wait to try out, are there any other games releasing in June that I missed on my list that you want to check out? Be sure to leave a comment below and let me know, my wallet is already scared to see what other games I’m going to want to buy!
