Top Indie Game Releases for July 2022

retrogamergirl here once again, somehow we have flown through another month and it is time once again to look at all the cool indie titles that will be released in July of 2022. I am still busy playing through all the great games that were released in June, but I’m always excited to add new titles to the library, especially indie ones. Here are five that are sure to keep you entertained for the summer month of July!

MADiSON — 8th of July

PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Madison NEWS 672x372

In this super scary-looking first-person psychological horror game you play as Luca. Luca wakes up in a dark room, with their hands covered in blood. They are locked inside and have to endure torture from a demon named MADiSON who is trying to continue a ritual that began decades ago. It will be up to you to use an instant camera to connect to the human world by taking and developing pictures by yourself.

With puzzles to solve and scary environments to explore while you try to survive, this title sounds terrifying. Not sure how long I will be able to last, but the idea of taking pictures and developing the film on your own definitely sounds intriguing!

Dinkum— 14th of July

PC

dinkum pc game steam cover

Taking place on an island that is inspired by the outback complete with “jumparoos” hopping around, this game has you building a town on the island. This is a more realistic version of Animal Crossing, and has you constructing buildings and growing vegetables and other plants in your garden.

Need a rest from the back-breaking labour? Then go fishing or do other activities like go hang gliding, explore caves at night, and go for a ride on your jet ski. You build fences, catch bugs, plant the seeds, water the plants, and pick all the ripe vegetables when they are ready. If you are a fan of farming sims and want something a bit different than Animal Crossing, Dinkum may be worth checking out!

Stray — 19th of July

PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC

Stray

Stray is a game that I have been excited for since I saw the first trailer, in which you play as a stray cat who is lost and away from its family, wandering the streets of a neon-lit steampunk city. You have to solve the ancient mystery of this abandoned city so this adorable orange kitty can get back to its family.

The city looks beautiful, especially with the lighting effects and the super-cute cat so I can’t wait to try this game out. The fact that you get to play as the cat already has me sold on this title!

Bear and Breakfast— 28th of July

PC

bearbreakfast

This cutesy management adventure game has you playing as Hank the bear. While walking in the woods with his friends they come across an abandoned house and get the idea to make it into a Bed and Breakfast. They think this will be a great money-making scheme to use to make money off of unsuspecting tourists. As your business grows, mysterious things start happening in the forest, uncovering a secret plot hidden deep in these woods.

You can build and customise your B&B with tons of guest rooms, bathrooms, entertainment rooms, and you can also personalise all the furniture and fixtures inside to attract new customers and make money. With quests and storylines to play there is so much stuff to do here; Bear and Breakfast looks like it will be a ton of fun!

Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony— 28th of July

Nintendo Switch, PC

koumajou

This title was originally launched in 2009 for Windows but is now remastered with new language tracks available so more people can play the game. In this gothic metroidvania, you play as Reimu Hakurei as she explores the Scarlet Devil Mansion trying to figure out where the red mist that is covering the land is coming from. Castlevania: Symphony of The Night was a big influence on this title but includes its own ‘Touhou’ bullet-hell style gameplay to switch things up.

This game looks beautiful, and if it has platforming like Symphony of the Night, I am totally in. The crazy bullet-hell addition will definitely make this a challenging title but I can’t wait to try it out for myself.

These are just five interesting indie games that I am looking forward to playing in July. Do you have any other indie titles that I should check out this month? Be sure to leave a comment below, and be sure to check out our list of Top 5 Games releasing in July for other gaming ideas!
