Surviving the Steam Holiday Sale - Day Three
The Steam Sales are something that we all anticipate with equal amounts of excitement and fear. How many awesome games will be reduced? How many of them will I have already paid full price for a few days before? Will I end up spending my life savings on games I never looked twice at before? We’ve all been there, and the Holiday Sale is no exception.
With a name like Holiday Sale, you almost feel compelled to buy stuff, you know, it’s the holidays, you deserve it, right? Of course you damn well do, you made it through the year! Only problem is, you’re already in debt from all the presents you had to buy for family and friends, and the random people you drew in your work’s Secret Santa that you spoke to once that time by the coffee machine. So seeing all these great deals come up becomes a bit of a balancing act. It’s almost like an equation really.
Where X = happiness:
X = (Game you really want + Great deal) > Amount of debt you can afford to bury yourself in.
Sometimes though, you have to draw the line, and for me, this is one of those times. I have well and truly tightened my purse strings, about to attempt something that may not even be possible: surviving the Steam Holiday Sale without one purchase. Every day, as I browse the sale, I will do so with the goal that I cannot buy anything, because I simply cannot afford to. The best part is, you guys will get to watch me squirm as I let the games slip through my fingers. So whether you want to support or mock, come join me on my tortuous journey!
DAY THREE:
I WANT ALL THE GAMES! Bah. It's funny really (not), but I was laid in bed last night thinking about how lucky I was that nothing really had come up that I desperately wanted. Well apparently I jinxed myself because today there are loads that I really really want. I'm particularly annoyed by Starforge's appearance though, as it's a game I've had my eye on for a while now, and at half price I'm feeling like I'm missing a great opportunity here.
It doesn't help either that Age of Empires II HD is sat there mocking me with its under a fiver price, making me hate this stupid stupid decision I made. What's even worse is I have pretty much dead-on £3.24 in my Steam Wallet. All the sighs. As one of the best games ever made (in my opinion), and one I have bought as a present TWICE for other people, am feeling like I'm getting some serious bad karma catching up with me; although I'm not sure what for!
And then there's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II which I am embarrassed to say I have yet to try, and have wanted to for a very long time. Again with for less than £5.00, I am just sat shaking my head in sheer guttedness. You can even get Darksiders I and II for less than £12.00, and for that price, I would normally be putting that into my cart tout suite. Instead though I'm having to settle for adding to my wishlist instead, in the hope that some merry old soul takes pity on me and buys me a copy.
Day three is definitely a lot harder than the others; with games for as little as 99p, I'm glad it's the shortest day because that means it'll be over soon... right?
