Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II on Switch Still Waiting for Restored Content DLC
It did not really come as a shock when Aspyr announced back in May 2022 that Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, sequel to the acclaimed classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR II and KOTOR, respectively), would be ported to the Nintendo Switch. Aspyr, after all, had been in the process of porting several old Star Wars videogames to modern platforms, including Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Star Wars: Racer, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.
While still critically acclaimed, when KOTOR II originally released back in 2004 on the Xbox and PC, portions of content, particularly around the game’s ending, were controversially cut to meet a tight release deadline. While this content has since been made available on PC by the modding community as The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod, it has never seen an official release, nor has it been made available on any other platform. Surprisingly, however, when Aspyr announced KOTOR II for the Nintendo Switch, they also announced that the title would receive a free “restored content” DLC in Q3 2022 that would essentially port the mod to the console. The DLC would add a new mission featuring companion HK-47, a new revamped ending, livelier crew conversations, and bonus quests and challenges. Needless to say, this promised content was a major draw for fans.
Unfortunately, the DLC is nowhere to be seen. We have long since passed the end of Q3 (back in October) and have received no further comment from Aspyr. A support page discussing the DLC still exists on Aspyr’s website; it still shows a release date of “Q3 2022.” There have been no posts discussing a delay from the company.
What is worse is that fans on social media voicing concerns are, from the looks of it, being ignored. Every single post that the company makes on Twitter is full of upset users asking for more information:
How about you give us an update on the kotor 2 restored content dlc. What a damn shame that this is even a problem.

When are you going to admit you're not doing the restored content dlc anymore?

What happened to the restored content DLC for Kotor 2 on switch?

What is perhaps more concerning at this point, beyond the total lack of communication from Aspyr, is that it appears that all mention of DLC has been removed from the game’s Nintendo eShop page. When the title first launched, there was an explicit mention of the restored content DLC coming in the future; this is now gone. Does this mean the DLC is completely cancelled, or just severely delayed? Without any official communication, we can unfortunately only speculate. It is notable that Aspyr has been in a bit of hot water these days. Originally announced as the developer for the KOTOR remake for PlayStation 5 and PC, reporting over the summer has suggested that Aspyr has since been removed from the project after failing to deliver in the early stages. It is certainly possible that losing such a massive project has left the company in disarray.
Regardless, it is absolutely unacceptable to have zero communication regarding promised content. People deserve to know what is going on with the restored content DLC, as it was likely a factor in the original purchase decision for many. At this point in time, we can only hope that more light being shed on the situation encourages the company to issue some official communication on the subject. This writer would certainly like to know.
Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lords was released on Nintendo Switch on 8th June, 2022. The aforementioned restored content DLC was supposed to release in Q3 2022.
