Splinter Cell Diaries Introduction
Welcome to the start of the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Diaries -- henceforth referred to as the Splinter Cell Diaries. Having just finished a run through all of the Red Faction games, and as I’m still unable to continue the Deus Ex Diaries, I decided to move on to a completely different game series.
Sam Fisher is some kind of super spy who has to sneak in places and do things without being seen. At least, that’s what I believe, having absorbed very little knowledge of the franchise since its creation in 2002...
I’ll be honest, I’ve never played the games before simply because of the name Tom Clancy, which I always associated with wartime “crap”. Historically it’s not a subject that interested me, most likely because it really interested my older brother, and it didn’t feature giant robots fighting with lasers. It probably doesn’t help that my default “sneaking” mode is pretty much the same as everyone else’s “hey let’s kill everything and see what happens” mode…
Literally the only times I’ve touched Splinter Cell was about a minute of my mate’s PlayStation 2 demo version, and the opening scene of Conviction’s demo, where you destroy a bathroom with some dude’s face. It was hilarious, but as I had never played the first several titles I decided to not buy the full game at full price.
I’ve made things look a little nicer thanks to this Steam Community Guide by Shemeal, giving me widescreen and PlayStation 3-style textures. There doesn’t appear to be any other kind of mod available, so all I can do is cross my fingers and hope for the best, as I join Sam Fisher on his original mission...
